Illuminating The Heart of Leadership
This is one of George’s most personal topics; he uses his life experiences to invite young leaders for a journey to learn about themselves. This journey draws us to other leaders’ worlds, put us in their shoes and sometimes let us share their experiences.
Broadening our understanding by showing leadership in a wide range of circumstances, It is a unique inside view of leadership, a deep introspect for young leaders to watch as they think, worry, hope, commit, regret and reflect. This presentation allows young leaders to confront a series of challenging questions about themselves which deepen their understanding and of ways to lead more effectively, by revealing what they are thinking and feeling.
This is a journey where young leaders challenge their individual character as much as skill. They learn and grow from meeting these challenges. Asking hard questions and developing personal answers, a valuable way for young leaders to learn from their experiences and prepare for the opportunities and tests in their futures.
George believes that effective leadership is not about skill, technique, credentials, networking or even experience but the clarity of who one is. Developing self-knowledge to enable young leaders to do their work, meet their responsibilities and live a rewarding and useful life.

Building an Open Society
Social cohesion is a fundamental yet elusive pillar to building open societies. This is a concept easier to recognize by its absence than by any definition. Lack of social cohesion results in increased social tension, violent crime, targeting of minorities, human rights violations, and, ultimately violent conflict. Social cohesion is about tolerance of, and respect for diversity (in terms of religion, ethnicity, economic situation, political preferences, sexuality, gender and age) – both institutionally and individually.
While violent conflicts are on the decrease, the level of social violence is greater than ever. In fact, levels of violence are higher in a number of non-conflict countries than in countries at war. Violence and insecurity damage national economies, deter investment, divert resources from more productive expenditures, and have a severe social impact, particularly for youth and women.
The drivers of violence and insecurity are various and complex, but often include: unaccountable security institutions and lack of rule of law, organized crime, corruption and war economies, breakdown of governance, lack of opportunities for youth, population movement, socio-economic inequalities, and cultural issues.
The common causes and culprits of social fracture around the world and particularly in Kenya are widely acknowledged; socio-economic, ethno-political and governance factors that fan violence, hatred, suspicion and enmity. This political demagoguery is always wont to incite poverty-stricken, unemployed youth, or tribal militias and gangs to visit violence on opponents.
As such, large segments of people particularly the youth face political and economic disenfranchisement spurring their participation in acts of violence and criminality, sometimes as forms of expression of anger and dissatisfaction with their condition but largely at the behest of their Machiavellian political patrons.
George is persuaded that these complex challenges can no longer be met with organizational or sectoral interventions alone; we must start to explore new ways to strengthen the common values and identity, inter-personal and inter-group ties that bind societies together and make them more resilient to violence and fracture.
This talk series will explore the concept of freedom and responsibility of the press, Human rights and the Rule of law, cost of conflict, accepting and integrating minorities, education for transformation, rehabilitation of post conflict communities, power of the people and social activism as a way of life.
This will also include strategies for promoting and strengthening community resilience, safety and social cohesion, reconciliation and peace building initiatives; consolidating national capacities for peace building and conflict management, mainstreaming a culture of peace and proposing key policy and institutional reforms as strategic approach against conflict, violence, human rights abuses and poor governance.

The Art, Argument and Advocacy of Debate
Debate and argumentation is the world’s most popular form of academic contest, it is dynamic, entertaining and challenging. It is encouraged for its associated value in discourse and learning for both the classroom and public arena. Debate teaches refined skills in extemporaneous speaking, critical listening, critical thinking, research and presentation required for any successful career in leadership.
George is a successful Pan African debater, in the British parliamentary system; he is committed to assisting young leaders to innovate their thinking, practice and craft of parliamentary debate. This shall enable them to be responsive leaders since issues of controversy and concern for all individuals and communities demand that people be able to express themselves through voice and argument.
This mentoring process shall provide the practitioners with information on debate and argumentation theory and practice; it will also empower the practitioners to stage successful public discourses for class, community groups, non-profit organizations, and activists groups, on matters of local, national and international importance.
This exercise is meant to help learners to integrate the concepts of debate and argumentation gradually, rather than at once, on numerous debating formats, before judges and a diverse array of audiences. The best way to learn debate is through practice, though this talk series introduces you on how to use vocabulary and concepts of debate.
